Compositions in mp3 format

Argument A work composed by using FM synthesis with random C:M ratio, index, and waveform of modulating frequency to generate sounds with a range of spectra from colored noise to pure sinusoidal.

Through the Course of Hours Time cools, time clarifies; no mood can be maintained quite unaltered through the course of hours. -Mark Twain

Distribution Study A work with many components arbitrarily based on the number 7. Assume that a right triangle can have four “rotations” that each place the right angle in a different corner. In this piece the four rotations are ordered so that the right angle is in the bottom left, then top right, then bottom left, then top left corner. Each “rotation” of a triangle serves as the basis for distribution of randomly selected frequencies for one of four sections. Since placing the flat portion of the middle two triangle rotations results in a parallelogram, the middle two sections are most likely perceived as a single variant section. Thus four “literally present” sections and three “perceived” sections equal the arbitrarily predetermined basis of the piece, the number seven. The randomly selected frequencies are chosen from an equally-tempered scale based on the 49th root of seven. Each fundamental frequency selected is sounded with six additional partials (for a total of 7), each higher in frequency than the last by a multiple of the 49th root of 7.
